The ruins of Cinderella’s castle.

The Enchanted Forest was a nursery rhyme themed amusement park that opened on August 15th, 1955 one month prior to Disneyland’s opening. The theme park was located in Ellicott City Maryland and sat on 52 acres, the park featured different nursery rhymed themed buildings, statues and characters. At first the amusement park did not have any mechanical rides, it was not till later on they added “tracked rides”. Rides like “Little toot” that would take you to Mount Vesuvius or a Alice In Wonderland ride that featured a train with teacup-shaped cars.Admission when the park first opened were only one dollar for adults and fifty cent for children, reports show that the Enchanted Forest had 300,00 visitors per season. In the year of 1988 the original owners, the Harrison family had sold the park for 4.5 million dollars to JHP development, that was the very first time the amusement park had closed.About half of the land was turned into the Enchanted Forest Shopping Center in 1992. In 1994 the amusement park opened for what would be its last season, in 2003 strong efforts were made to revive the “nursery rhyme” theme park but plans fell through. For a few years the characters and buildings would be forgotten, decaying and rotten away deep in the woods. In 2005,it was approved after strong efforts of the community to help preserve pieces of the abandoned theme park, that all the pieces of theme park could be moved to Clark’s Elioak Farm. The pieces were moved and restored one by one starting that same year saving what pieces they could. In the year of 2015 the last and final piece to be moved was the giant castle that the dragon sat on top of.Today you can see the castle, Little toot and many of the other original enchanted Forest characters and buildings at Clark’s Elioak Farm.Unfortunately, the gingerbread man house, Cinderella’s castle and mount Vesuvius along with a few other items were left behind to be demolished in 2016.
